As you all guessed, I read a documentary about Barbaro, the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner who shattered his left right leg in the Preakness Stakes within a furlong into the race after false starting before the actual race. The book itself shows how one nation can all pull together to try and help save the life of a badly injured racehorse by simply sending him love and giving funds to help pay for his multitude of surgeries to repair his leg as well as save his feet from laminitis. The book also shows the sorrow and loss that we all felt when Barbaro was euthanized on January 29th at !0:00 AM at the New Bolton Animal Hospital where he was treated for 9 months after his heartbreaking injury in the Preakness. I actually finished the book at the end of math class rather then talking with everyone, and the thing is that many people have heard of Barbaro, so my love of this late horse shouldn't be unexpected nor should it be a a subject of little interest. The book gives you an fantastic insight of the people who were involved with Barbaro, part of " Team Barbaro" which consisted of his owners, his trainer, his jockey, Barbaro himself, and the vets who made a gallant attempt to save his life. Although for those who know little about horses and horse racing, it may be a little difficult to understand which is where the useful index comes into hand at the back of the book. I'm not giving everything away, so you'll have to read it to find out exactly what happens during the long struggle to save this courageous and extremely brave horse which didn't have the miracle ending many were hoping for.
In my writer's notebook, I've been mostly working on my Fiction Story which is actually a part from my book series that I took the pleasure of posting on Mahara if anyone's intereste, but only Book 1 is on Mahara. In the Fiction Piece, Kris who is the main character is forced to run away with her semi-tamed stallion, Golden Mustang, because her father is going to sell him due to his dangerous behavior which almost got Kris killed. Her horse, who is only upset because he's trying to protect Kris, ends up saving her life by willingly going with her when she escapes with him in the middle of the night. What Kris doesn't know is that Diablo, Golden Mustang's rival, is following them while planning on attacking them as soon as daybreak hits, but only the Dun Stallion knows this. Meanwhile, Katy and Natalie are riding out in hopes of finding Kris because they know that running away with her horse will only make her father want to sell him even more because he's endangering his daughter again. That's all I've really been working on other then the prompts that Mr. Zenir gives us, and I believe that I got a fairly good score for my writer's notebook because I've done all of my prompts the best I could. Hopefully, you'll be interested in my fiction piece therefore it may be put on Mahara if you would like since I would like to publish it.Personally, I'm looking extremely forward to the Writer's Workshop since writing is one of my favorite things to do in the world other then visit and communicate with my pets including Elliot, the horse who is Golden Mustang in real life, and my very old cat, Spooky. I also love reading therefore a whole class dedicated to reading and writing is a dream come true for this girl! As far as I know, alot of people are enjoying this wonderful oppurtiny to
